First Impressions 2003 Ford Mustang Mach I

The 2003 Mustang is an important vehicle to Ford for the coupe market segment. The Mach I is a member of a series of four trim levels for the Mustang which include Base, SVT Cobra, GT, and Mach I. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Lexus.
Performance
The restyled Mustang Mach I is equipped with a Ford 4.6-liter 8-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 32 valves. The engine is paired with a Borg Warner 5-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.
The fuel system for the 2003 Mustang is a SFI design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 15.70 gallons.
The Mustang uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.
Mustang Mach I Statistics
The Mustang is 183.20 inches long, 73.10 inches wide, and 53.10 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 101.30 inches. It is able to seat 4 comfortably.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $23,705 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $21,724. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.
The standard warranty period for the Mustang is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 36 months or 36,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the coupe market. Extended warranties are also available through the dealer.
Fuel Efficiency
The Mustang Mach I received a miles-per-gallon rating of eighteen in-city driving and 24 - 26 when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.
In Summary
The 2002 model began the promise of the Ford Mustang. The 2003 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Ford hopes that the Mustang Mach I will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

Blah
Yawn… Not much has changed since 2002 with this coupe.
There’s no doubt that Ford is up to it’s old tricks with the Mustang? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
